Tips

#1 - Always, and I mean always, carry a notebook around with you. The urge to write obeys no schedule, and a thought may slip away if it isn't captured in the moment of conception.

#2 - To revise is not just to correct your spelling, to revise is to rethink what you've written. Sometimes it's best to let a poem "cool" for awhile before you pick it up and run it through the wash.

#3 - As the poet, you are not only the "makar" of the verse, lines, and rhymes, you are also the inventor of the poetic world within your poem. Make sure you include enough information for the reader to understand the atmosphere and the rules of the poem.
